I recently visited some Southeast Asian countries and was fascinated by their diverse cultures and stunning landscapes—so many new things to explore. Here, I wanted to share my top 3 picks for this summer
1. Thailand
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear “Thailand”? You may think of a beautiful Island with affordable shopping, hot weather, nightlife, and street food. And I’ll tell you the secret – It’s all true, and I have fallen for it.
- The Islands are beautiful – Thailand is home to many beautiful islands, each boasting unique features such as white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, lush forests, and vibrant coral reefs. I had so much fun visiting some of the islands in Thailand. So I suggest you visit Phi Phi Island, Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Lanta, and Koh Tao.
- Bangkok is a heavenly place – I have visited Bangkok three times during my trips to Thailand, a destination I must always see. Explore the beautiful city filled with temples and historical sites. Don’t forget to visit the night market, shopping center, and bars for more entertainment.
- The food is fantastic – There are many delicious dishes to try in Thailand, such as Pad Thai, Som Tam, and Tom Yum. Be prepared to gain weight!
2. Vietnam
I left my heart in Vietnam! It may sound clichĂ©, but it’s true. I have been exploring many places in Vietnam, but my 10-day solo backpacking trip was not enough for me. As a female traveler, I never felt unsafe, even late at night, due to the friendly local people. I will share what would make me revisit Vietnam.
FANSIPAN, SAPA
- Breathtaking Landscape
I discovered one of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever seen during my trip. The Great Buddha statue is at a pagoda complex in Fansipan, SaPa. Don’t forget to visit some of the best places in Vietnam, such as Nha Trang, Da Lat, Hoi An, Ninh Binh, and Mui Ne
- The Historical Places
Most significant cities have French-styled buildings among numerous historic sites. I discovered Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Hoan Kiem Lake, and the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first national university.
- The best place to drink coffee
Did you know that Vietnam produces the most robusta beans in the world, which makes Vietnamese coffee unique? If you’re a coffee lover like me, Vietnam should be at the top of your list of the best coffee destinations. No wonder there are so many coffee shops in Vietnam. I enjoyed trying delicious coffee varieties, including Egg coffee, Coconut coffee, and Vietnamese iced coffee.
3. Indonesia
I have traveled extensively throughout Southeast Asia because I live in Indonesia, where flights to other countries are inexpensive and frequent. As an Indonesian, I would like to share why Indonesia is a great country to visit in Southeast Asia.
- The best place for backpacking
Indonesia offers fantastic travel destinations with stunning mountains, beautiful beaches, and breathtaking scenery. Some of Indonesia’s most popular tourist destinations are Bali, Java, Lombok, Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Borneo. Not only are there many places to explore in Indonesia, but there are also budget-friendly destinations
- Affordable
Indonesia can be pretty affordable, depending on your travel style and preferences. But as an Indonesian, I would like to say some Indonesian places are cheap to visit and stay such as Yogyakarta and Solo.
- Diverse Culture
Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world, there are more than 17,000 islands and 300 ethnic groups. Visitors can experience a range of vibrant festivals, art, music, and cuisine that reflect this diversity.
Before traveling to Southeast Asia, here are essential tips to prepare for a fun and meaningful holiday!
- The best time to visit Southeast Asia could be at any time of the year, depending on your preferences and desired experiences. Generally, the peak tourist season is between November and February because the weather is nice and not as hot as the rest of the year.
- Please pack lightweight, breathable clothing suitable for the hot and humid climate. Don’t forget to pack sunscreen, insect repellent, comfortable walking shoes, necessary medications, and a travel adapter for charging your devices.
- Planning your itinerary involves researching destinations, learning about local cultures, and creating a budget.
- Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months after your planned stay. You may need a visa to travel depending on your nationality and destination country in Southeast Asia. However, many nationalities can enter Southeast Asia for free. But It’s a good idea to have a dummy return ticket if you need to apply for a visa but still have no idea when you will travel.
